Democrats will be favored to win a new heavily Black congressional district and two Alabama Republicans could end up running against each other under the redistricting plan adopted Thursday by a panel of federal judges.

Don’t be obtuse. The original map deliberately favored Republicans. The new map is more fair than the original. A fair map “aids” Democrats when compared to an unfair map which is biased in the Republicans’ favor.

This is not the same as the Democrats “gerrymandering” in their favor.

It’s not gerrymandering if you use strictly geographic and neighbourhood boundaries to create areas that contain an equal number of people.

Any place where the politicians decide their own electoral boundaries is gerrymandering in my opinion,

That was the case where I live, it changed to an independent body 25 years ago. The difference is night and day.

Before the change the conservatives held 66% of the state seats with only 39% of the vote. The conservatives were in power continuously for 30 years.

Good thing this was decided by the courts because the map chosen by Republican politicians disenfranchised people.
