That was the case where I live, it changed to an independent body 25 years ago. The difference is night and day.
Before the change the conservatives held 66% of the state seats with only 39% of the vote. The conservatives were in power continuously for 30 years.
Good thing this was decided by the courts because the map chosen by Republican politicians disenfranchised people.
