Asian RPGs have always used names from mythology and religion to name tons of their characters. Many of them bear only token resemblance to their original depictions, and rarely have anything at all to actually do with them other than some surface attributes like “ice” theme. It’s kind of hard to get up in arms about yet another one.
The thing about Genshin is that their whole world is set up around nations, and the next one is supposed to be Latin American and West African influenced, but everyone is white. Just like they did the last one, Sumeru, which was Near East and South East Asian inspired. They want the culture with none of the melanin.
In a world where historical figures are repeatedly represented in media with the wrong ethnicity, that VA’s complaint seems like irony.
But seriously: if Genshin really aimed at accuracy, they’d have to portray the character as some old guy, which is totally contrary to the tone of the other characters in the game: youthful, cool-looking, modern.
There are no real world deities. 🤷🏼♀️
As an atheist, I’d agree. I assume they mean those that ate part of an active religion. Rather than historical myths, like Zeus.

All the “gods” routinely get made fun of, criticized, etc. It’s not unique to whatever this god is. People twist religion or religious traditions for humor, as a thought experiment, because they think it makes their story more interesting, etc all the time.
Nonsense or not,. It can be seen as punching down when mocking a smaller religion without the wider context. That could be offensive to many people.
They’re wrong and their position is not valid.
If they’re offended they can fuck off. People are entitled to mock and criticize any bad belief.
They’re not mocking the religion tho, they’re using it as part of their game but removing the melanin. It’s whitewashing basically, that’s what they’re upset about. It’s really only tangentially related to religion

They can’t even stop playing Genshin. When they’re trying to make people boycott it. So like I said, no one cares. Because it’s all virtue signalling.
