Right now, you create an identity by signing up to a Lemmy/Mastodon/Kbin/Matrix/etc. instance, and you need a separate identity for each app (if you want the full experience, though you can interact in some ways with only one identity).

Could it be possible to make an app that handles just authentication? So I could identify myself as @[email protected] and respond to login requests from each type of app (since the login process doesn’t seem to be unified)? Then just use whichever app/interface makes sense at the time?

So I could log in with Jerboa or Element by pointing them to the instance of the authentication app, but then use Jerboa or Element to interact with the fediverse?

(FYI: I seem to be unable to respond to comments.)

Jerboa is very limited unfortunately. I would recommend using the website to change your settings.

I posted a couple of comments in one of the chat threads and they don’t seem to have appeared. Wonder if that’s a Jerboa thing

Fair enough. I’m primarily using the browser. There’s a “select language” option to the right of the “Reply Cancel Preview” button stack.

But to that point… you’ve responded to this comment just fine :)

I sure did! Don’t know why it’s working on this post and not on my last one. My experience today has been a bit frustrating.

Depending on the post the origin server might have had outages or whatnot. For instance Lemmy.ml is going up and down like a yo-yo. If the main server hosting that content is down your instance might have some issues sending stuff off it it I suppose? I’m relatively new to this myself and still working out all the weird quirks. Watching the digest messages for all the content in the logs is interesting in of itself.
