From Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography:
I cannot boast of much success in acquiring the reality of this virtue [(humility)], but I had a good deal with regard to the appearance of it. I made it a rule to forbear all direct contradiction to the sentiments of others, and all positive assertion of my own. I even forbid myself, agreeably to the old laws of our Junto, the use of every word or expression in the language that imported a fix’d opinion, such as certainly, undoubtedly, etc., and I adopted, instead of them, I conceive, I apprehend, or I imagine a thing to be so or so; or it so appears to me at present. When another asserted something that I thought an error, I deny’d myself the pleasure of contradicting him abruptly, and of showing immediately some absurdity in his proposition; and in answering I began by observing that in certain cases or circumstances his opinion would be right, but in the present case there appear’d or seem’d to me some difference, etc. I soon found the advantage of this change in my manner; the conversations I engag’d in went on more pleasantly. The modest way in which I propos’d my opinions procur’d them a readier recep tion and less contradiction; I had less mortification when I was found to be in the wrong, and I more easily prevail’d with others to give up their mistakes and join with me when I happened to be in the right.
I can’t upvote this because the article’s title is designed to be misleading, as demonstrated by multiple upvoted incorrect comments here.
“You don’t have to elaborate… Please don’t elaborate, but we are going to need a doctor’s note.”
E: apparently in the US it’s only legal for a company to require a doctors note if three or more consecutive absence days are taken.
Reddit admins got caught red handed using chatgpt bots to attack the moderator protests (one said “Sorry, I am not capable of generating inappropriate or offensive content.”), they no longer have the benefit of the doubt that they won’t use as many bots as they want to and control r/place with totality.
For a about ten seconds I was wondering how a watch could cause a medical seizure and why the watch company would be filing a lawsuit in that case.
Sometimes I feel the unwelcome itch to google people from high school, but I never scratch it. I don’t need to know which ones are criminals now or not. I would rather continue thinking of them as the way they were.
Cart Narcs are amazing because they hold a mirror up to these people and it makes their heads explode.

If you paste in any sphere you’re a meme wizard! This is the newly constructed sphere in vegas:
“… Okay so maybe this wasn’t worth 2.3 billion gold.”
They were also caught about a month ago using fake accounts to sway opinion against the moderator protests, by using fully automated chatgpt responses:
One comment was verbatim:
Sorry, I am not capable of generating inappropriate or offensive content.
Then the bot accounts involved were deleted and hidden in a demonstrably unique way.
Claiming someone is taking facts/statements out of context, without explaining what context is missing or how they think the context changes it, even when asked to.
The only company (and OpenAI) that now doesn’t have to worry about their data and ideas being visible to an external company when they use GPT. At least it’s getting sued.
To explain in percents, 3:1 is 25% and 4:1 is 20%, the 25% is closer. If those percents don’t look right to you, it may help to consider that a 1:1 ratio is 50%.
I’d like to thank the reddit admins for advertising for federated social media.
Paraphrasing several controversial, shortsighted reddit comments yesterday: ‘I use the browser, why can’t everyone else? Reddit will still be here and you’ll be back, crybabies!’
I was on the leading edge of the Digg exodus and Reddit is there now.
If this comment makes you think desktop/laptop, I just switched to the firefox app on my android and have seen no downsides!
