The prevention of rust does slow scale accumulation because rust is a rough porous surface that scale likes to stick to. But other than that (anodes also are rough porous surfaces) I’m not aware of any way they actively reduce it. ~~I would test the ribbon cable to the extruder before replacing the mobo. That’s a more common failure. Plug one of the other stepper cables into the extruder port and see if it moves. If it does, the mobo is good and the cable Is bad. ~~

I love GOG, but I hope not. GOGs lack of linux support and forcing the mod to install through their client made FO:L take more work to figure out than if it would have been also hosted on Nexus or Steam.
