Hit me up on matrix! @influence1123:matrix.org
If I can play videogames in my head while I’m at work, great. If my addict dopamine brain gets highjacked so that I don’t know how to do anything except consume ads then bad.
You better figure it out before the bed bugs bite.
Nevermind. After days of back and forth with them they said that they only have that feature available to big companies that have an account with them for a year or more, which is definitely annoying. I’m going to give Brevo a shot next, I heard someone mention them in a thread before about this. It looks like their free tier allows for 300 emails a day. I’ll let you know how that goes if you are still looking.
I bet this happens to a lot of people unless they get sucked into a YouTube/truthsocial echochamber rabbit hole.
Oh wow that looks like it might be perfect thanks so much! I just switched to a random other instance but luckily switching instances on Mastodon is easy. Especially since I don’t post there much. Ill move there now, thanks again!
Hell yeah! Great movie.
Except that movie had no catharsis only tension.
Waking Life
Another reason to move away from companies that harvest and sell your data as much as possible.
I am in the exact same boat. I just switched to Proton as it looked like they had these features right away. But it turns out you have to explain what you want to use smtp for before they allow you to generate tokens. Which is probably due to them attracting a high amount of scammers due to their really good privacy. So I can understand but it is a tad annoying. If you are willing to wait I’d give them a try. Their business plan is cheaper than googles and gives you a lot and they are open source.
Literally just found out about them. They seem awesome so far!
Oh thats super cool that they do that. It would definitely be cool if there were more things like that or even publicly run instances that could be searched through.
I agree that everyone running an instance, that they expect to gain any users at all, should form a non-profit, at the very least for liability reasons. But trying to find a business model for running an instance is exactly against the point of why we are all here in my mind. If users like an instance and want to make sure it stays around then they should donate to it. That will make sure they have funding to keep paying the monthly server costs.
But if you do donate it is also fair to expect some amount of transparency in where the money is going and that the instance does have plans and failsafes. I think it is all stuff we are figuring out as we go together.
The Other Guys
Bootlicker
I definitely agree with that. But at the same time this is almost as good a cause as any for all our bloated military budget to go to. Besides Ukraine.
For news and search I have no idea. But I’ve been moving email, calander, drive, and password manager over to Proton. Im just starting with it but you definitely give up some convenience for the peace of mind.
Nothing like a well trained algorithm haha. Although I’ve been trying to de-google myself as much as possible as well.
Yeah, I’m in a similar boat with some of the communities I’m trying to start. But I did it before with a subreddit and it was similar. It was a very very long time of only me posting before other people joined in. But with Lemmy it seems to be going a bit faster at least. I’m sure slowly over time more and more people will join and find their niches. Good luck!
