Where are you seeing dread? Most of the cicada news I’ve seen falls between “this is a cool curiosity” and “this happens regularly and is perfectly fine”. Also plenty of articles about eating them.

Because mainstream porn sites are blocked or require age verification in my state. Other good reasons are to avoid some issues when torrenting things or to “be” in another country to get around Netflix and other streaming service region blocks.
Privacy and avoiding man in the middle is kinda bullshit. Nearly all websites use TLS, so mitm isn’t possible. And it’s only privacy from your ISP.
I agree with the people suggesting Onshape.
But if you like programming, OpenSCAD can be really interesting.
After he did it the first time, I linked him a nice Wiha set. He stripped more a week later because he hadn’t gotten around to buying the screwdrivers. (iFixit is great too)
One of the IT guys at my work is really good at stripping torx, but that’s because he uses a driver a couple sizes too small.
Last time I tried it, the prebuilts packages didn’t work, and the version I built from source couldn’t recognize any graphics or video outputs to use 😞
Daschund is pronounced like “daak’ snd” in case anyone else didn’t realize this. My mind is blown.

To be fair to 4, cell phones are miraculous.
No we aren’t 😞
Weirdo.
It’s off site, but hackaday.com is great for (mostly) electronics and computer tech articles.
That’s a surname 😞
I’ve had them. They are bad.
Nah, it’s user error. Torx also has the problem. I’ve had to rescue multiple laptops from one of the IT guys at my work because he keeps using a Torx bit a couple sizes too small and stripping the heads.
Consider post processing steps if you really need smooth parts. Sandable fillers, special paints, epoxy coatings, or just a bunch of sanding. I’ve had good luck with XTC-3D. It’s an epoxy you paint on that’s specifically designed for smoothing prints.
You could also consider a resin printer if you need smooth. They are their own can of worms, but the resolution and smoothness is good.
I usually just accept the roughness.
