For anyone that needs a guide. Should work for most providers with some configuration changes.
Very nice. Details on the the mini PC & jbod? I’m curious what your read/write speeds are like and what (if any) compromises you had to make vs a “normal” 2u/tower setup.

The 7600xt 16gb launched at $329 last year. The absurd $449 launch price of the 8gb 9060 is a sad symptom of how overpriced the 9070 cards have remained since launch.

I haven’t found a single thing to complain about.

Based on some very rough estimates using mindfactory and amazon sales data, the 9800x3d is in line with or below 5000 series RMA rates.
If there was real cause for concern, the RMA rate should be much higher.
I’ve given up after years of looking for a solution. I just use https://www.livesportsontv.com/ these days.

Proxmox also has great snapshotting and backup features. Makes it easier to mess around with your containers/VMs without worrying too much.

The exception being the new Intel N line of processors that have capable enough GPUs to do the transcoding. If all you’re after is decent transcoding performance for H264/H265 video, anything newer than Intel’s 7-8th gen CPUs will do the job. $100-$200 used optiplexes and thinkcentres can easily handle this type of workload.

darcmage@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Help me choose hardware for my first custom setupEnglish3·4 months agoCan you be more specific about your performance objectives? The Pi5 can handle jellyfin and nextcloud relatively well, so if you’re having issues with them, identifying the bottlenecks can help narrow down the hardware recommendations.

But there’s a lot of anger at Trump here. Booing the American national anthem is not something we do lightly. I haven’t seen people this united for a common cause for a long time. I regularly see people checking labels at grocery stores to avoid buying American even if we have to pay more.
We know a recession is likely for both countries and we’ll be hit harder by it. It’s a small price to pay for our sovereignty.

It’s all thanks to mrrobvs at the other site and started with this post. Prior to that, I had always used various resellers at 2x-5x of what I’m paying now.
I’m surprised that group hasn’t been taken down yet. Maybe we could find a way to post reviews of the various services, something that doesn’t clutter up the community and makes it easy to search for relevant info.

I’m not a reseller (have no intention of becoming one) but I do have useful info to share. Would be nice to have a dedicated lemmy community that is safe from the usual takedowns & spam.
I use Steam only for games purchased from Steam and Heroic for Epic, GOG, etc…
Heroic makes it much easier to manage games. Custom prefixes for each game with winetricks, mangohud checkbox, environment variables and so on. If the interface was better/modern with some sort of tabbed layout, I would use it for my Steam games as well.
