Communism is covert fascism? Why then did fascists round up and kill communists? The two are wholeheartedly opposed to each other.
That might be the stated intent, but it seems plain that once the leaders are in positions of power and authority, they abuse their power. This is why, as fallible as is democracy, it is superior.
Do you think that socialism/communism is not a democratic system?
The pitfalls of our current systems preclude us getting to the point of utilizing space to any meaningful extent. Better to forgo the hypothetical Star Trek romanticized fiction and just fix what we have here; then maybe we can think about that stuff.
At this stage, the mere mention of any such possibility is a distraction from the gravity of the situations we face. It’s a mere tool to keep the apple cart going, while people are literally dying from our own collective hubris.
I dunno, I think he’s too much of a narcissist to let that happen. Not to mention the stupid money he was compelled to spend on the purchase, despite him playing it off like he’s playing 4D chess.
Beautiful doggo!
I feel like this is their reaction to the feeling that (1) frontiers are not as wide as they used to be in the younger days of the internet and (2) economic undercurrents driving them to put the clamps on, locking in their user base and trying to squeeze every dime they can before things go tits-up.
As with all innovation that was started at the behest of public (taxpayer) initiatives, companies are initially greeted with wide open frontiers - new horizons to exploit, extract, and dominate.
In the fledging stages of a startup, they will sing praises of openness and public good and the importance of community. However, once they have reached a certain point they pull the ladder up behind them, close the door, and claim they did it all based on their own ingenuity and merit.
Were it not for the effort of the public - through the creation of the internet, and the average person putting into making content and value on the internet - these companies would not exists. Don’t forget that. People; regular people, are what make the internet a place worth visiting and using. These companies are just extracting from the richness that we generate.
I’m using Connect for Lemmy currently and it seems to be working okay. Just takes some getting used to, of course.
America’s darling Jeff Bezos exploited a flaw in his book suppliers policies to gain an unfair edge on competitors in the early days of Amazon. Best business man ever: give him the key to the city and a dick-shaped rocket ship.
He also got rich daddy and rich friend money to get money for his totally original and non-derivative idea of “selling things online”. Maybe that’s where this guy went wrong? No rich daddy?
