I see no downside, only upsides, mainly not having to be subjected to the bile spewed by company propagandists who manipulate people in search of unsustainable growth and profit at the expense of humanity
What I’m hearing is that marketing is the problem - if so much money wasn’t wasted on it then the world would be a better place.
Yeah, even more than 10 years really - maybe OP was in a coma 😅 or just didn’t notice until someone made a comment and then couldn’t stop seeing them. Kind of like when you a buy a certain car you suddenly start seeing them everywhere because you’re more familiar.
No clear answer for sir and ma’am honorifics
I feel there is no need for them so just dropping them is the best solution - anyone who expects them or is insulted by not using them is an entitled ass.
Yeah, somewhat, because I’m not some entitled ass when thinks I’m better than you, I’m not a military officer in charge of you, and I’m not so old that you need to be deferential because I come from another time and expect it.
Fwiw, nothing to do with gender but I hate being addressed as sir/ma’am, especially by people I don’t know. It’s unnecessarily formal and I know most people think it’s a respectfl thing but to me it’s somewhat insulting and makes me uncomfortable. Thank you is plenty.
It is extremely irritating - admittedly I used to do the same many moons ago but then I grew up.
I think with experience/perspective people can see that windows is needed. There’s just no way all the computer illiterate people (most people) will be able for Linux, not unless it’s simplified to be exactly like windows… (I don’t want to hear about how your 120 year old grandma learned arch at 100 having never touched a computer before and now teaches software dev - exceptions prove the rule)
I also grow tired of every year hearing it’s going to be the year of Linux desktop.
There should be a sub or something for people to link up 6 people so they can all save monies
That’s exactly what they don’t want though. I wouldn’t say they’ll never offer that but if they did it would be short term until they have enough marker share and the they’ll do what Netflix did. Google (or insert prettyuch any company here) doesn’t want you to save money, they want as much of it as they can get.
That’s an asinine statement to make and suggests a lack of common sense.
Any website can be compromised, even if only for a short time and zero click zero-day vulnerabilites exist. Companies are not the only ones at risk from this or the only ones with something to lose if their system gets compromised.
Common sense is important but not enough (and evidently not common enough).
To be fair to those users, the joke isn’t funny…

No marketing people, no marketing materials, no marketing budget, no influencers. I don’t mean not using the term and switching the practise to some other title or having it so there are loopholes that allow the propaganda machine to continue making the world a worse place.
Do I think this will happen? No, it is but a dream due to the greed of humanity. Those on top thinking their entitled to be mega wealthy, those on the bottom hoping they’ll be on top one day.
