Uncapped overtime excuses bad management. I get why they’re pissed, this puts a spotlight on how bad they are at management.

ITT: People who did not read the article and just shot from the hip
Oh fuck that rules
That policy obviously needs to die a horrible death.
Barring some technical breakthrough, I am inclined to agree.
We can and should build extensive high-speed rail networks, though. This will provide intra-continental mobility at a price affordable for everyone. While gratuitous trips to the other side of the world will no longer be feasible, fast intra-continental trips can in many cases take their place. Flying can remain a niche for when it’s completely unavoidable, in which case we should be able to absorb the emissions.
Actual emissions taxing is basically a necessary step when it comes to air travel - currently, the fuel is completely tax free and that’s not great. Take all of that money and pump it directly into rail, which is the actual way forward for intra-continental travel.
It will get more expensive and less accessible for lower income people. There’s just really no way around that.
Normally I will default to siding with workers, but I’m not siding with the pilots on this one. No way.
It’s also when using a blocked word on lemmy.ml, but will only show as such for users of that instance.
The r-word is on that list, and I believe the b-word might be as well.
Note that this is monthly, not yearly as is usually reported for other countries. Argentinian inflation is not the same beast we’re dealing with in most of the rest of the world. The yearly number is closer to 200% as reported by the article.
Get yourself a few bottles of caffeine pills. They’re really cheap and might get you through some tough times
I think global warming as a term is not great, because it fails at communicating the end result of the overall average temperature increase, which is more chaotic weather on account of the increased energy present in the system. Sometimes this will mean temporary local reductions in temperature, and sometimes it will mean unusually cold years in places. Don’t give people the option to use ‘bUt iT’s cOlDeR tHiS yEAr sO hOw cAn gLoBaL wArMiNg bE rEaL’ as an easy argument.
Climate change is the more accurate term, but I do prefer terms that more accurately communicate the severity of the situation, such as the climate crisis, for example.
So we’ve been going on for a pretty long time about how Florida is basically largely going to get completely lmaoed by climate change, and trying to warn people moving there and so on.
But as time goes on, I’m thinking maybe it’s best if they suffer the consequences of their actions, and let the ocean have this one.
Refugees will of course not be accepted in accordance with the new regime policy either, and FEMA has been fully dissolved.
That seems like a great way to plug your own drains.
Also, I was under the impression that restaurants could sell their frying oil for recycling? This is a weakly held impression to be sure but I want to remember reading something about it.
Surely it must mean “for those who don’t know”, right?
Right, so I chose lemmy.ml in June 2023 right at the start of the exodus from Reddit as it appeared to be a “sensible default” at that point. I’m not even sure that lemmy.world was around at that point, it certainly did not appear to be the “sensible default” it appears to have turned into.
I’m not using the instance as any kind of political statement, this is just the account I use to interact with Lemmy as a network. I could certainly move off the instance, but I’ve found that filtering out some content makes the instance mostly usable for my purposes.
Feel free to check my post history as to whether I’m auth left or not, I’m certain you’ll find that I’m not. Leaning more and more left as the days pass, to be sure, but with no love for authoritarianism.
I think you’re overestimating the influence of the auth-left on Lemmy - this is an extremely small place in the grand scheme of things, and while I think they had a truly shit take, it would be too generous to say that they even moved the needle.
Assuming non-wasteful delivery methods, I’d still call that a win as vaping is generally less harmful to the health of the user.
Quitting is of course preferable, but I support harm reduction policies in general
As a counterpoint, I’ve bought loads of really good cycling accessories from AliExpress. It’s not impossible to buy high-quality things from China - this is after all where a large part of everything is manufactured these days - you just have to be careful not to fall for the offers that are just obviously too good to be true.
