Yeah, we’re not arguing against landfills as a general concept. But they’re still basically the least bad solution, when all the good solutions don’t apply or got ignored.

Not producing that garbage in the first place is the big one. Most products in supermarkets are wrapped in trash, even though lots of them could be sold in reusable containers, or at least in biodegradable or recyclable containers. But burying trash underground is assigned a lower price than sending reusable containers back to manufacturers, so that’s what every company does.

The difference is the amount of trash and that more of it is not organic, so will not break down. A small hole in someone’s garden, which largely decomposes over a few decades, is a very different thing than a mountain filled with trash that stays there for the next generations.
For example, groundwater can get contaminated by landfills, if they’re badly planned, or when an earthquake tears the ground under them apart.

Well, I mainly mean that they’d need to put in quite a lot of work to make the existing Oblivion mods work with it or to develop a new modding API. I doubt, they’d put that much work in for a cash grab remaster/remake.

I mean, I have heard of some weird constructs before, where games used their own engine for physics and whatnot, and only used Unreal for rendering. If that makes sense for them to do, that would preserve support for most mods.

The thing is, the age of the engine doesn’t say anything. The Unreal Engine started its development before 1998. But you do have to put in work to upgrade an engine over time and Bethesda doesn’t have Fortnite money for that.

If it is in Unreal, that’s going to be interesting. Presumably, mod support is out the window then.

Sure, but so it’s still non-sensical to compare a transistor to a whole chip. That’s like saying a trumpet is louder than an orchestra.

I mean, I agree with your reasoning, but the thing is, Ladybird has to advertise to potential end users in order to find contributors. Servo isn’t quite in a situation like that, because there’s an industry interest in making it fly, but without the industry interest, it would have to do just the same.

Of course, the messaging in such advertising should be that it ain’t ready and whatnot, but you kind of have to make it look promising from an end-user perspective for potential contributors to even just consider contributing…

The engine makes it so HTML, CSS, JavaScript etc. are downloaded and turned into pixels you can look at. The browser embeds an engine for that purpose, but then also has a URL bar, tabs, bookmarks, a history feature and so on.

The Edge engine before Blink was called “EdgeHTML”.

Yeah, Servo has a massive headstart and from that point, it has a reasonable goal of becoming a lightweight, web-like platform, which you can specifically target when building UIs for embedded devices. That means, it has a use without supporting the entire web.

Ladybird’s goal of becoming a general-purpose browser, on the other hand, is something that Mozilla, Google and Apple continually chase with hundreds of developers and decades of a headstart. Ladybird explicitly does not want to use existing web technologies, so they get no headstart.
In other words, anyone who knows enough about the field will not be talking about Ladybird as something an end user will use. At the very least not in this decade, but potentially never.

I think, part of the frustration is that many people have been wishing for realistic Pokemon games for a long time, to experience their favorite anime as if it was real. Pokemon Colosseum gave people a lot of hope when it came out a million years ago and then it’s just been disappointment after disappointment. Even the recent games hardly look better.
