No need to apologize, was just curious - figured folks is gender-neutral as is, never saw an alternate form of it before.
Sincerely, thanks! Didn’t know this was a thing for anyone.

Off-topic, but if you don’t mind me asking, why folx over folks?
There are people trying pretty hard to make that happen, though mostly in the context of supervised medical interventions.
Which I’m here for - while a lot of people do OK (fantastically even) with less structured psychedelic experiences, many do not. A really bad trip can do a number on you, sometimes for a long while.
You may not be into the music and culture - and that’s cool - but you definitely get it.
Thank you for sharing this - sounds like it was a hard, but necessary, thing for you to write. Send your cousin that text man, I’m sure he’d appreciate it.
A lot of Juggalos take the Juggalo Family thing very seriously.
Doesn’t describe all of the fans, but think about it for a sec - think like the biggest stereotype of a Juggalo. Fucked up home life, outcast at school, not well educated, hopeless feeling, more than average chance they’ve been homeless or dangerously close to it, etc. Then offer them some semblance of feeling like they belong to something, as they are, and are part of something like a family.
For a lot of people, that’s powerful fucking stuff, and most of the Juggalos I know are there for it (whether these were their circumstances, or not) and act accordingly.
Fuckin’ love Juggalos. There’s a demo cd or something for The Wraith album that has a track that pretty much sums this stuff up, imo, if I find it I’ll leave the link. Edit: Found it. Strongly recommend anyone who doesn’t quite get this stuff listen: https://youtu.be/N-i8YX0W_88?
Did a unit on interactive fiction for a grad seminar once, and sent a link to the Infocom Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy game as an optional primer. No one in the room except the prof and one guy who was experimenting with MUDs at the time had ever played a text adventure.
I mean, that was fun for me…
Thing is, it’s not that uncommon to do this, and it’s not like the cashier is going to report you as suspicious to the relevant tax authority. Sometimes people don’t have the full value for groceries in their bank account, or are right at the tip of their credit limit - but do have cash on hand to cover the rest.
The point is to have a paper trail/transaction history of lesser value for the tax man. Two transactions in one visit is just as valid as two different visits using different payment methods.
Comes down to whether you feel awkward doing the first one I guess (cashiers generally won’t think twice about it, aside from maybe mild annoyance). It is a classic “Things aren’t going great for me rn” move - but who cares, you know the truth.
(Ignore all of this and pay your taxes, people)
Love the worst band in the world, fam.
If nothing else, they’re an inspiration for just doing your own thing artistically. Fuck the critics, just make some shit you’re passionate about, make it available to find its audience, and connect/bring in other folks who want to do the same.
IMO, they created/‘popularized’ an entire genre of music, and some of it’s better than what they put out (for example, I like Twiztid more - but they wouldn’t be what they are if it wasn’t for ICP and Psychopathic Records)
Edit: For those who need a pick me up going into work tomorrow, a little MMFCL for ya.
A little niche, but
Bring a gay homie to this place and treat it like a two for one promotion.
Note: You are probably going to have to be willing to throw down/draw for your gay homie. Edit: Reading more it’s probably just best to not patronize this place at all.
Brain - Candied
Tapeworm - Fed
Heads - Crushed
Chicken- Ladied
Take that, atheists 😎
I mean, kinda, yeah.
Here is a random list of songs I like, in my opinion under the umbrella of country in one way or another (though some stretch that a little. Or a lot. Don’t @ me, die-hard country fans).
Some may, indeed, involve beer, trucks, and American Christian propaganda - but pleasant sounding at least. I’m also confirmed to be pretty lame, and that may be reflected in my choices here.
I also never said you needed to dig deep - some/most of this is like, a fingernail scratch. But if you find something here you dig, strongly recommend diving deeper into the artist.
Merle Haggard - Mama Tried
George Jones - White Lightning
The Highwaymen - Highwayman
Dick Curless - The Heartline Special
Eddy Arnold - Cowpoke
Conway Twitty - Hello Darlin’
Townes Van Zandt - Waiting Around to Die
Sons of the Pioneers - Empty Saddles
Marty Robbins - Running Gun
Willie Nelson - Bubbles in my Beer
Hank Thompson - A Six Pack to Go
Johnny Cash - Sunday Morning Coming Down
Sonny James - Baltimore
Del Reeves - A Dime at A Time
Dale Hawkins - Everglades
Jimmy Bryant and Speedy West - Blue Bonnet Rag
Tim Carroll - I Think Hank Woulda Done It This Way
Buddy Emmons - Orange Blossom Special
Tommy Collins - You Better Not Do That
The Louvin Brothers - Satan is Real [here’s that propaganda I told you about - still love this song]
Eddie Noack - Psycho
Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed - Jerry’s Breakdown
Tom T. Hall - That’s How I Got to Memphis
Roger Miller - Dang Me
There is, in fact, good country music that isn’t just about trucks, beer, flags, and right-wing U.S. propaganda.
People have a lot of hate for the genre due to the mass appeal, common denominator examples. But like with all music, dig a little deeper beyond what gets radio play and you can find some good shit.
Man, every so often when I’m at work, I’ll still daydream about renting out my local theatre, having them use a black question mark rather than the private rental image on their schedule website with a note that it’s a private rental with public access, then playing the Church of the Subgenius’ recruitment video (link for the interested: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o0x9ymMQUg8). Or, depending on my mood, one of those desert series stoner rock concert videos.
Only thing stopping me is money, and the fact that ARISE is on DVD rather than Blu-ray - I don’t want to do Stang and co dirty like that, it would look like shit.
For me, it’s sheer laziness. Can’t be arsed to shave more than once every 6 to 10 months.
Do always find it funny when folks react strongly when I do shave. It’s hair growth, not a personality.
I agree - figuring out how to take advantage of time dilation for therapeutic purposes would be very cool, and potentially quite useful. This is kind of what I hope comes from renewed research into psychedelics, being able to pick out the mechanisms for all the different effects and developing techniques to cherrypick just a few with therapeutic benefit with a much reduced risk of freak out. We may already be there re:time dilation alone with TCMS or something, idk.
But real talk - which do you see getting funded for wider use first, 5 year retreat in an hour, or psychic prison?
(Actually, saying it at loud it might be even odds, depending on the price tag folks can assign to the retreat)
Man, fuck society’s outdated edicts - as long as you’re able to feed yourself, you’re doing amazing in my book.
What now? A lot of options still on the table, but here’s something to think about: one element of the whole fatherhood thing is passing down the knowledge you’ve gathered from all of this for your child’s benefit/enrichment. But you aren’t going to have kids, which is fine. So - are there any other means to share your knowledge/experience with the next generation? Preferably in meatspace?
I disagree that it’s without merit. Again, OP is not asking the question “Is God evil?” - they’ve come to that conclusion already and aren’t presenting it for debate. They’re asking if there is a term for this position. It’s a fair question, and probably an entry point for them to do additional reading and thinking on the idea (after which point it may or may not be revised). If there was a more even mix of theists, atheists, and folks in between who wonder about this stuff on Lemmy, I’d hope OP would come back to discuss the idea, but that’s not what’s happening rn.
If it helps, I’m coming at this as someone who believes in small g god - to borrow the Christian idea of the trinity, God the Father does not exist as an independent entity, God the Son is a more interesting discussion, but god the holy spirit does exist - rather than a pure atheist. Happy to yap about that more but it’s kind of off topic.
In an age of LLM, Seaman needs a remake.
