I just realized something…
At some point, Valve will release a Steam Deck 2 - It will be slimmer and even better than the first. Maybe in a couple of years I am guessing
Then that will be it because other companies will be releasing cheaper devices with their Steam OS. Steam simply cannot compete with them on price, and the feature set (other than faster chips) will mostly be locked in.
In short, there will be now Steam Deck 3 - Gaben strikes again
Came here to say the same thing from slightly different perspective.
I worked at a company that provided Value Added Services to all the carriers. Somehow (lobbying, I guess) all the revenue share we received was treated by them as R&D money, even though it was pure profit. In short, they were making a ton of cash, sharing some of it with us, and then not re-investing it back into their networks like they were legally required to do.
They are an exercise in failed capitalism

Cannot access the article, but the headline sounds like it’s a financial outcome. I find that to be a highly dubious premise. Surely there is more to life than “having more money”?
The tests help you discover what needs to be written, too. Honestly, I can’t imagine starting to write code unless I have at least a rough concept of what to write.
Maybe I’m being judgemental (I don’t mean to be) but what I am trying to say is that, in my experience, writing tests as you code has usually lead to the best outcomes and often the fastest delivery times.
This is why you write the test before the code. You write the test to make sure something fails, then you write the code to make it pass. Then you repeat this until all your behaviors are captured in code. It’s called TDD

I graduated as a mechanical engineer, but these days am the lead for a large Android project. Am I an engineer? Yes.
Engineering is about coming up with solutions to problems where the solution is not always obvious, and a lot of software work can fall into this.
If all you are doing as a coder is modifying the UI, or fixing a bug, this is not engineering. If you are designing the systems, you’re an Engineer.
And massively increased again in the last five years…
