A NEW highly pathogenic subtype of avian influenza, also known as bird flu, has spread from birds to minks and blue foxes at at least five fur farms in South and Central Ostrobothnia. According to Helsingin Sanomat, the Finnish Food Authority has confirmed that the farm animals were infected with the subtype H5N1, marking the first confirmed transmission of avian influenza to fur-bearing animals in Finland.
