    It wasn’t a failed rape bid. It was a failed rape attempt. There wasn’t an auction like I was thinking based on what I read in the title.

      Just non native English speaking translation. A bid can meet an attempt, like a bid for re election.

      One of the meanings of ‘bid’ is to attempt to achieve something

      e.g. “In a bid to escape, he jumped down the waterfall”

      Doesn’t mean money is involved. But I agree it’s a poor choice of phrase for this headline.

      And either way, very bad news =(

      Yeah I’m not sure what “rape bid” is even supposed to mean, in any context. Doesn’t “bid” imply something that can be accepted?

        Don’t worry, someone made a whole page about bid. It’s actually kind of crazy how in-depth it goes, so search for [Subject-Verb], I think that’s the relevant bit.
