I caught myself thinking “144 is a gross”. It took about 2 more seconds before I got it. Sometimes my mind is strange.
Am I a complete moron or am I limited by English not being my primary language?

Nah you’re fine, a gross is a pretty dated term for describing a dozen dozens, i.e. 144. I thought it was something Tolkien made up before I got into dozenal.
