Good! Loot boxes are an abomination. It’s gambling and it is teaching kids to gamble.

Loot boxes, and other random-chance things like it are one of the reasons games are so unfulfilling nowadays.

It also teaches kids to gamble, which is bad.

The US has a record of having (relatively) less restrictive policies than the EU. Such a law would have a hard time happening

I hope this stuff will follow through worldwide because when looking at Belgium some devs simply decide to not release their games anymore.

I’m all for banning loot boxes but we are a small country and easy to simply not release a game.

If US has a ban, then I’m sure devs will change stuff around

A EU wide ban would have the same effect as a US ban, and is much more likely to happen since these singular EU countries legislation can become groundwork for EU-wide legislation on the subject.

So they waited until all Devs had moved onto battle passes instead to implement this?

Yes! Loot boxes are awful for children (and even adults). Glad to see the Dutch doing something about this, and I hope others follow as well.

It’s a hard fight because these gambling companies make so much money and are able to lobby (bribe) their way into legality. The whole sports betting scheme bulldozed it’s way into Canada and suddenly so much advertising.

Don’t underestimate the Dutch governments willingness to tell the people exactly what they can or can’t do. They love that.

Loot boxes are a plauge. Wish other countries would follow. Not the waiting to see what the German government eventually decides to do on this matter.
