I’ve noticed in a lot of Reddit threads the outright hostility towards Nintendo games and Nintendo fans in general gaming subreddits.
I really hope this isn’t the case here.
I really hope this isn’t the case here.
Wait. You really hope an entire collection of instances and, furthermore, the entire collection of communities within each instance, will have the same exact opinion, of -at the moment- being pro-Nintendo.
You really must be joking right?
There is absolutely 0 chance you will find one opinion spread among an entire community, let alone here in the Fediverse where it’s multiple communities.
Each person has their own opinion and/or agenda and that’s the best part. I really hope this side of the entire continues to not be able to be labeled a singular thing since that is immoral and outright incorrect, on all fronts.
So to answer your question: Who knows? To each(user) their own.
I’m new so not sure if I’m in the wrong place.
Every place is the wrong place to ask this question.
Putting a label or asking a community to reveal their manifesto is not a good look or how conversations should be started.
The correct thing to do is participate in communities you seem to like and if you find out that you don’t agree with that community on one or more fronts, then by all means, please create a new instance and/or community on your own and run it according to your preferences. This is the intended purpose of the fediverse: If you don’t like it, do it better by yourself.
I wish to hear all opinions in here by all kinds of people.
I wish to hear the worst and the best arguments on a topic.
Doing what you ask, as in join a pro-Nintendo community will 100% have a bad outcome since it will, by definition, be an echo chamber.
This is completely wrong. If there’s more discussion for a product like the Steam Deck vs the Nintendo Switch despite the staggering difference in the size of the install base than that community is BROKEN
Are you trolling?
I mean I guess Lemmy is deeply rooted in the open source community so I believe that people here tend to have more interest in the steam deck because it’s an open system running on linux so there is a huge overlap in the communities.
Also why do you believe that reddit is anti nintendo? The nintendo switch sub alone has almost 5 Millions subscribers and is in the top100 sub reddits.
A lot of Linux enthusiasts are on this site, and the Steam Deck runs Linux.
If you are looking for Nintendo specific communities, you have
[email protected] and [email protected]
It doesn’t mean at all that the community is broken. Are you looking for a Nintendo Echo-chamber for real? Every social media will contain one, and every social media will also have a group criticizing it. This is true with everything, not only Nintendo.
Why are you getting mad over this anyway, that is just the nature of social media?
Thanks! I will check them out.
I love Nintendo and have a Switch I still use, but there’s clearly a lot more to discuss about the Steam Deck right now than there is that console. The hardware is much newer, and there are far, far more questions people are asking about it as it’s a much more open device. Nobody’s asking how to set up multiple stores on the Switch, for instance, and for obvious reasons.
This is such a weird opinion as a switch owner. Communities are anti-nintendo because they talk about the steam deck more than the switch? Come on. I remember when all the cod kiddies hated on nintendo because you couldnt shout racial slurs at your opponent and you’re mad that there’s not enough talk about a console that’s been around for 6 years at this point? Communities might not be for you
This is completely wrong.
You think allowing users to express their opinions is wrong contrary to gathering people of one opinion only?
I don’t think there is a further point to be made in here.
They probably saw one post that wasn’t fawning praise for Nintendo and it broke them.
Like every Nintendo fan.
Nintendo games - generally great.
Nintendo fans - mixed bag.
Nintendo corporate - shitebags, the lot of them.
I think this is the real distinction. Reddit had a generally anti-Nintendo view of the company but loved the games. I think, considering Nintendos legal actions against fans, it’s a fair opinion to hold.
My love for Nintendo games has a direct correlation with how much I am frustrated at Nintendo for their harsh stance against emulation and their general shittiness towards customers.
I think you just only followed communities where Nintendo weren’t popular. I mean, there is a sub for every major Nintendo game, and one for Nintendo themselves.
Ummm what? I saw non stop ninetendo post on reddit
“anti Nintendo” man speaking up against their shit is the right of everyone, same with all other gaming companys that are just disappointing nowadays.
For right now I don’t think it would be fair to say one way or another. Most of the communities are pretty generalist because there’s not a ton of users so you’ll get alot of different opinions on just about any topic. It’s going to be awhile before Lemmy has a dedicated Nintendo community or any specific hobbiest groups for that matter.
Personally I’m mostly neutral on nintendo, I dont care for many of their games myself(except for some of the casual party games) but my sister is a big fan so I’m able to appreciate them through her. I’m sure many others probably feel similarly.
I use a PC, a PS5 and a Switch for gaming. Why would I bash against Nintendo? Mario games are great ;-)!
Why would I bash against Nintendo?
People like to bash Nintendo because of them going legally against fans that decide to revive older games that no longer available to be played using legal and/or official means.
This is really a gray area and people agree/disagree on this.
If for example OOT is not able to be played at all but a dude hacks the code and puts it on an emulator, then is that wrong or not?
Legally it’s wrong, but there’s an argument to be made that since Nintendo doesn’t offer this game, technically their are not losing profit.
Ultimately it’s a totally gray area and civil discussion on the topic should be welcomed and not suppressed, ever.

The dude didn’t hacked the Code of OOT and the dudes behind the Emulator also didn’t hacked or pirated the software of the device. Its called clean room development and is totally legal; it would only become legally questional or outright illegal when they reuse codes they attained from the reverse engineering of the devices software.
Dumping the ROM of a Cartridge is also not illegal as you own the Cartridge and therefore the Software/ROM. Providing it to others who may or may not have the Cartridge, now THAT is a grayzone.
So the argument still stands across the board= Emulation is not Illegal, regardless of Nintendo spouting that false claim or using Emulation for their own retro games collections or VC or Nintendo Online.
Don’t know what you’re talking about on reddit, and I definitely haven’t seen it here.
As far as I remember reddit was far from being anti-Nintendo despite all the shortcomings of the company.
Wait, what? I like Nintendo.
Replies here have no chill.
Anyways, I’m a Nintendo fan myself, gameswise.
Corporate-wise? NCL’s better than most companies, but I’m anti-corporate as a rule.
