I was curious, does anyone know if there is a Fediverse alternative to sites like IMDb or TMDB/TheTVDB—something that allows users to discover, review, and discuss movies and TV shows in a decentralized way.
I know about Moviewyrm, which is a concept ofa a potential fork of Bookwyrm.
While it’s a great start, it is just the concept of a potential platform.
If there isn’t one, then has anyone ever considered building a more robust movie/TV platform for the Fediverse?
Or better yet, is something already in the works that I might have missed?
I’d love to see a project like this come to life, but unfortunately, I lack the knowledge, time, and energy to start it myself.
However, I’d be really interested in discussions or ideas for how such a platform could be built.
This isn’t really what you’re looking for, but libremd is an Invidious-style front end for the IMDb. It manages to scrape quite a bit from them, though not everything.
What advantage would federation bring to a database? Federation is a cool concept, but it doesn’t belong everywhere.
@TheRedSpade @Teknevra If I understand it correctly, a Fediverse account (e.g. Mastodon) can be used to create reviews (about films, music etc. from the database). And these reviews can then also be shared and commented on in the Fediverse.
This is cool.
@Blaze @Teknevra there was an article in We Distribute about #NeoDB : NeoDB is a Review System for Culture. An incredibly robust review system for media.
It isn’t federated but I use Trakt to manage watch lists and scrobble my viewing history from Plex. There are some discovery features and a minor social aspect.
Careful there, unfortunately it doesn’t have any way to sync or export your data into other services.
They have an API available so I could siphon off my data if I wanted to but then I would need to build something like it to use said data in. I’m good.
