That’s not the real problem. Key resellers actually cost the devs money because those keys are bought with stolen credit cards. Eventually the original card holder does a charge back for a purchase they didn’t authorize and it’s the dev that ends up with the bill.
Also if people pirate a game they can potentially still buy it through official channels later. If they have bought it through grey or black markets then that opportunity is lost.
I originally pirated geometry dash, minecraft and terraria when i was kid but then bought them. I think if a game is good you can vote with your money. But maybe im just a minority because i also support foss projects.
I guess pirates don’t result in additional costs for the developer such from dealing with support tickets or other forms of customer care 🤷

Did this with many games due to pure convenience, ie it was easier to just pay to have it on steam.
