If Ukraine had done to russia half of what hamas and hezbollah have done to Israel, nobody would be rushing to Ukraine’s defense, like nobody rushed to Iraq’s defense.

Human rights can at most make you neutral about Israel vs its opponents, because none of Israel’s opponents give a crap about human rights either. Not the case with Ukraine, they at most match russian escalation.

Israel, despite being captured by fucking brutal idiots right now (whereas before Oct7, bibi was eventually going to jail, gee thanks hamas), has always faced some existential threat of some kind, whereas russia never faced any realistic threat from anyone and still brag about their willingness to break all rules for “russian greatness”.

You are missing the point. This conflict did not start on October 7 and not with the founding of Hamas or Hezbollah. This conflict started with the colonization, ethnic cleansing, dispossession, rape of Palestinians and countless other crimes against humanity committed by the Zionist settlers.

And this conflict will only end with the decolonization of Palestine with Palestinians having equal rights in a democratic country that acknowledges and compensates for the Nakba that Palestinians have suffered through and respects the right to return of Palestinian refugees.

In the course of that we’re gonna need something similar to the Nuremberg trials and a de-Zionisation of the population. Needless to say Israelis will have the right to stay, but they need to abandon Zionism. Israelis won’t like this, because they have to give up their ethnic superiority beliefs and their apartheid state. And I have a hunch that you also won’t like to hear this, but this is the only way to resolve this issue once and for all.

Maybe, but you are missing a point too. Even if it was a mistake to create Israel in hindsight (the world was very different just after 1945), the fact is that there are millions of people who live there, call the place home and will do anything to keep what they have.

Good luck “making them disappear” by basing all your reasoning on dismissing them as zionists and a settler state who cannot possibly feel like they truly belong there.

The best you can get is a palestinian state and expulsion of settlers from the West Bank, but for that you need assurances that Iran or anyone else won’t be placing missiles 20km away from any major Israeli city, which anyone who thinks like you will never be able to guarantee, because of what you believe.

Now compare that to russia, largest country on Earth, with infinite resources, enough nukes to destroy every major capital, huge strategic depth (less than the US, more than most countries) acting like they are the victim against a country that committed the crime of not submitting to their influence and then annexing 5 Israels’ worth of their land.

They can keep living there, but if they want to live in peace they’ll have to accept that their whole existence in that land is based on the colonization and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and that their privilege exists through apartheid. And they have to accept to give all of this up and live together with Palestinians, compensate them for their losses, give back what belongs to them.

I’m not talking about what I personally demand, I get nothing out of this. I’m talking about what it takes for them to be able to live in peace.

If Russia takes over parts of Ukraine and colonizes them, they won’t ever be Russian and any resistance against the colonizers as it is carried out now legitimately by Ukrainians will forever remain legal, until they are free again.

In that sense, it doesn’t matter for how long Israel is colonizing Palestine, it will forever remain wrong and resistance will remain legitimate until Palestinians are free again. Israelis should be able to remain there, but only under the outlined conditions.

Now, assume there would Russians that live for 75 years in Ukrainian, colonized territory and continue their genocide of Ukrainians? Will you consider them native to that territory? They might live there in the 3rd generation. What would you do with them if that territory would be free again?
