Iirc thunderbolt looks like usb-c and it even works with usb-c, you just won’t get the extra bandwidth and some devices won’t work properly.
This is a problem though. Everyone demanding usb-c is because they want thing to “just work” with one plug, but it wont. You think grandma knows that her usb-c and thunderbolt are completely different?
