What this would actually do (once the test case ruled that it would have to apply to fathers too) is destroy HOV lanes entirely by making everybody able to use them, since the state would have the burden of proof to show that the driver has never had children.

More like F-Droid cares about things like reproducible builds and other best practices, and sloppy upstream projects sometimes have a problem coping. But as I understand it that’s typically the upstream developers’ problem, not F-Droid’s.
I actually like that the F-Droid maintainers check over the apps and warn about anti-features/stop offering new versions if they enshittify.

They certainly should’ve; it’s just a consequence of how pressure is force divided by area.
Here’s an analogy that might make it feel less weird: you know how you can reduce the force needed to lift a heavy weight by using a lever and making the lever arm longer? This is the same kinda deal, except that instead of varying the length of the lever arm you’re varying the diameter of the hydraulic pistons.
You don’t get it for free, of course: just like how you have to push the long end of the lever a longer distance to lift the weight a shorter distance, in a hydraulic system you have to press the plunger further down the small-diameter piston to move the plunger in the large-diameter piston up a smaller amount.
(I thought of mentioning pulley systems as an analogy too, but of these three varieties of gaining mechanical advantage I find pulley systems to be the most confusing, LOL.)

It isn’t hard at all to say whether Bill Gates is an “overall net ‘good’ person” or not. He became a billionaire (which is an inherently exploitative act), and no amount of trying to whitewash his legacy with philanthropy after the fact can change that.
At the very least, us 10%ers could be advocating for things that lower the carbon cost of our lifestyle, such as zoning reform.
Note that I’m not talking about reducing the quality of our lifestyle. I’m talking about maintaining or improving the quality while making it more efficient.

When I bought an RX Vega 56 on launch day seven years ago and installed it the same day, I had to go with the proprietary AMDGPU-PRO driver (on Kubuntu) because the Free drivers didn’t support it yet.
When I bought an RX 9070 XT on launch day two months ago but took a few weeks to install it (because it was wider than my old Vega I had to get a different case, which I spent a little while deciding on), I had to upgrade to the actual latest mainline kernel instead of the one Kubuntu shipped with, but then it “just worked” without any proprietary drivers. (The same would’ve been true had I installed it immediately on launch day as 6.13.5, which added support for it, came out before the card was released.)
Of course, it suddenly occurs to me upon reading this thread that I haven’t tried the new card out with GPGPU or LLM-type stuff yet, and since I’m not using the proprietary driver this time I guess I still need to install ROCm. Oops, LOL.
Have you considered using your hand as a squeegee instead? Sounds a lot better than slapping to me.
I’m willing to bet it varied by employee diligence. I think it’s much less likely to be a company policy of not giving out the manuals to renters and more likely to be that they didn’t quit renting the game after somebody failed to return the manual.
