Legitimate question: Who exactly is it that won’t attend her inauguration? Were they invited, but refused to attend? Who else from the US is going?

Also, congrats to Mexico! sounds like a great choice for a president!

Yeah, I’d be interested in how many people go to the inauguration of other countries heads of state.

Like, my best guess is that it’s a dig at, like, Gov Abbott, but I agree that I don’t think I’d expect him to, even if he was a Democrat.

I will NOT be attending, so I’m on the list. I can’t go, but I won’t be going, either, as I neither have an invitation nor the means to do so.

Wait, after all those murders and sabotaging during the elections the people still managed to elect a really worthy president (seems like the best president I’ve seen in all the countries the last years)??

Wow, maybe I should move to Mexico

    Congratulations Mexico!

The top comment on this thread should be an unqualified “Hell yeah!” not speculation over whether she is going to be murdered.

I am not attacking you, I understand the knee jerk reaction, I am just pointing this out because I think it is true. I also don’t question that you are genuine in your concern, that isn’t what I mean.

To everyone else on this thread, especially if you are white/European or from the US and are white please don’t joke about the President of Mexico getting assassinated given the history with Mexico and the US (and by extension Europe). It isn’t funny, even when you are being sarcastic.

      Just be happy for Mexico.

I understand but I literally just left Nogales to visit my stepfather and during my week there there were so many campaign ads. The only thing he told me about them is that candidates from all positions from Mayor to Governor and up wind up dead all the time.

Apparently it’s really common and my father had a similar reaction to the top comment. Yes it’s scary but it’s something that the government needs to take precautions for

I don’t think the commenter was joking, nor contemplating whether she’d get assassinated. It’s not a joke to say a lot of politicians have been assassinated and to question how someone in such a situation managed to get safely elected.

What should be and what are, are frequently two different things. In this case, political candidates shouldn’t be commonly murdered, but that’s a reality for them and one they should be planning for.

And it’s not a knee jerk reaction, it’s just a legitimate worry posted by someone who pays attention to the news. I’m sad to say that I both had the ‘hell yeah’ reaction right before thinking ‘I hope her security can keep her safe’ thoughts back to back.

More leaders like her please, looking at you US

Edit but yeah being technically capable aside, many eugenists were PhDs and philosophers. Sam Harris comes to mind as he is a racist and a sophist with lots of academic qualifications. So yeah, ethics and morals also matter greatly. Mexico seems to have lucked out, good for them!

She appears to be a Social Democrat, not a Socialist, so she should be safe as long as she plays ball with the US, rather than pushing back against US Imperialism.

Mexico recently applied to join the Genocide case against israel.

Morena is a pretty solid party overall, and we should treat socdems in the global south differently from their counterparts in the imperial core.

AMLO for example is pushing hard against the US extradition of Julian Assange, even playing the the collateral murder video when some New York Times journalists started throwing shade. Morena also recognizes Palestine and is closing doors to Israel, against the wishes of the US.

Great to see the people of Mexico continuing to support Morena and reject liberalism, this is a great day.

Indeed, I don’t mean to downplay this day! Just to point out that I am hopeful that she can do some great work unhindered by US hostilities. Social Democracy in the Global South is fundamentally not based on Imperialism like in the Global North, I absolutely agree.

Those are pretty good points. Still, you had to participate in Reddit in order to find that story.

The point is that news organizations, reporters, etc. need to start using fediverse platforms so we’re not stuck still using Xitter and Reddit. Moreover, a source from a reputable news outlet would be preferred over social media.

I post around 5-10 link per day to feed the fediverse, Some of them come from reddit. Actually , despite all the good intention the fediverse is a dead place compared to reddit. But dont worry, when I read something worthwhile here, I dont post it on reddit, I have no account there.
