As awful as that is, the design of those dumpsters will always lead to this. To put the bag in, you must hold the lid open well above your head (and higher than many people can reach) while holding a heavy bag of trash, then lift it even higher to get it in. If you are smaller than average (e.g. a child), physically disabled, or just not an able-bodied adult, that becomes impossible

Not to mention the design of those lids is intended to keep the dumpster closed so water won’t collect and animals won’t get in. They’re kind of heavy, so the wind won’t open them. They’re also designed so at that angle, with that wide a swing, it’s not easy to get those lids up at all, almost impossible to open it all the way and leave it open.

That’s why they’re usually built with side windows. They don’t generally want those top lids to open until the truck comes.

Europe to the rescue. You can make them susceptible to rain but that means you’d have to slide back the lid quite a bit which is uncomfortable and not necessary to put a bag in, there might also be a stop you have to lever away. Some also come with an additional front flap which is usually sufficient. Pedal actuator available as extra.

Very possibly a disabled or wheelchair bound person. Those containers suck. I’m surprised there isn’t more trash next to it

Fuck short people I guess. That’s the first dumpster I’ve seen that doesn’t have a side door.

I worked apartment management for years, and this image is a drop in a bucket to some of the horrors I’ve seen in dumpster areas. All it would take is one person leaving their garbage on the side like this, usually a kid that couldn’t lift the lid, and every single person after, like a sheep, followed suit. They assumed that the dumpster was full because garbage was piled in front.

Devil’s advocate here: it’s possible the person who left the bag there may have some physical disability that keeps them from being able to open the dumpster or lift the bag into it. Not everyone is equally able to do everything you can.

Lot of people have already mentioned that that person might have been disabled or short buy I see this problem at my place for a different reason.

I live in a tiny dorm room so once my trash is full I need to empty it as there is just no storage space for it.

Only problem is that we have far too few trashcans for residents, so they are almost always full. There is no real other option than to put the trashbags next to the bins.

This shit happens all the damn time where I live. By the end of the day it’s a trash pile as high as the container
