Inability to play sounds too. Wav and midi would have been taxing on that chip.

First the handheld 386 machine, no now this. It’s an interesting time for new retro hardware.
These machines seem to rely on old stock chips, I wonder if there will be market for new clone chips at some point.
As you said, main problem is relating on old stock and that stock at some point is going to run out, though I think they still make new 2,3 & 486 processors though this is usually for industrial embedded applications.
I think there’s a niche for those kind of things though!
Fpgas will take over before that, probably use less power now too.
