For those of you who aren’t familiar with the project, Skyblivion is remake of Oblivion inside the Skyrim game engine. They’re remaking all of the assets and overhauling the maps, among other things. It’s one of the most ambitious mods of all time, slated to release in 2025.

This trailer was released back in January, but it seems many haven’t heard the good news or even learned of the project yet. With the five year anniversary of the TES VI announcement and nothing to show for it, you’ll probably get to play this before Bethesda gives us anything.

I always find massive fan projects like this fascinating. You’re putting all the effort it would take to create a brand new game and releasing thousands upon thousands of hours of work with no way to recoup your time or money spent. It’s hilariously a true love letter to Bethesda and the world they created while also making them look bad for having not released ES VI in the time it took a homebrew team to completely make an ES game.

It only really looks bad, but like we did also get like 1.5 Fallouts and then Starfield, which we’ll see more of in just a bit over half a day.

Wild, a 17 year old game, remade in a 10 year old game. That’s a ton of work and dedication from the developers of this project. Hats off to them.

Right? They have a sister project too called Skywind, a remake of Morrowind—which just recently turned 21 years old!

There’s also Morroblivion which is nowhere near as polished as Skywind will be but it’s still pretty fun, I’ve played it a few times over the past decade or so and setting it up so both games are in the same worldspace so you can walk/fly/sail between them seamlessly with one character is pretty neat!
