Exactly! To be fair, it did show pictures first, but I wasn’t paying attention to their names. Then when you actually choose you can only see the names and they both sound kinda like female names. I don’t think I was the only one who made that mistake.
It was so widespread an issue that they patched the name selection screen to include the picture :-)

I have my transparent purple Gameboy tucked in a safe place. My husband had me get rid of my Nintendo 64 a few years ago, and I’m still not over it.
